Defeated

I feel defeated.

As ya'll know, it's not been a good past few weeks for me.

Now I have yet, another RV issue.

The glazing bead was popping off my overhead cab window!

OK, I can tackle this. Actually, I need to take it back to the repair place as some of their work is falling apart! Including the glazing bead on that window.

So since it was just barely hanging on anyhow, I got the ladder & pulled it off.  It was absolutely covered in caulk. Sticky gooey caulk. And rubber butyl gunk. So when they "thought" the window was leaking, they applied a bunch of caulk & rubber butyl around the window, then popped the glazing bead back on. Bad idea. Not good. All that caulk has caused the glazing bead to contract & dry up in parts. Not good. And this was fairly new stuff as I changed it out myself last year!

I cleaned it off as best as I could. Then I decided to pop it all back on. Nope. Ain't gonna happen.
The frame is also covered in caulk! So it won't pop back on. Then I was angry at myself for even taking it off, but it was about to pop off anyhow. I was angry at myself for tackling this again. Working on the overhead window is not easy. I have to borrow a ladder & the one I have to borrow is a fiberglass ladder. It's not a strong ladder, so concerns me every time I need to use it.

Plus there's the issue with my foot. I put a towel on my hood & step lightly on the hood in which to balance myself. I have to be extremely careful though as not to hurt myself.

So now the glazing bead is in a lump waiting for me to put it in a box. I cut plastic & taped it over window for temporary protection.

I am defeated.

She also has a flat tire. It's my spare tire. When the roadside service sent me a tire guy, they sent me one that only spoke spanish, so I could not converse with him. I could not tell him what I needed done. So he took off the tire, found a nail in it, put the spare on. He wanted to fix the tire, but since we could not communicate, I could not ask him about that. So now I have a flat spare tire on my drivers side dually & the spare has a nail in it...and it's hard to find someone with a jack big enough to change out the tires. I'm sunk.

I know I'll get past these things, but I sure wish life would just get good again & stop picking on me.
I also found a crack in my fiberglass on the overhead cab area. I think it's related to the rebuild.

I feel defeated.

I am defeated.

I give up.

Please, please tell me life does get better!!

I know it will. I'll get the tire addressed, then get the RV back to the repair place. At least no money will be coming out of my pocket, except for the gas to get there & back.

My world just looks rather black right now.

On the foot front, I'm pending again...and am not getting better. Never get hurt while working for the government...

Can't work & I have no income. Sorry, I'm mostly venting because I just have to let it out. All this is also part of the RV lifestyle...it's not always sugar & roses.

I did put a tab up for the RV as someone asked me to see it. So look for the tab on this page!

I will say one positive is that on the passenger side of the rebuilt overhead cab area is looking good now. It was all lumpy & they told me it would settle. I didn't believe them, but it has. The drivers side however has become unglued. Oh goodie says me sarcastically. I'm not sure, maybe they use Elmer's glue.

I hope all is well with everyone.

  2. TexCyn, I am so sorry that the RV repair shop did a shoddy job. Things like that just drive me crazy. How does a business think they can build a successful business with deception and poor workmanship.

I won't try to tell what to do as that was not why you posted this. But, I will tell you that I am so sorry for the challenges you are facing. I know from reading your blog that you are a strong capable woman that will overcome all these challenges.

I wish I could do more to help but all I can do is try to lend a little moral support. You will come though this.

    1. Thank you. I do feel better today. I just needed to step back & look at the big picture. All that is wrong is covered & I will have to be insistant that they do it correctly. Part of the problem is, he doesn't really oversee what his workers are doing & he doesn't seem to inspect the work as it goes out the door! But enough is enough, I will have to put my good foot down! Thank you for your support.

    1. Thanks Merikay. You know the overwhelming feeling when things go wrong, it seems like everything is wrong. Once we step back though, it's really not as bad as we think...

  4. Oh Cyn, sorry that things are causing you such grief. Venting is good as it relieves the pressure you are feeling and will help you to think about this and make the right decisions to get things fixed. I'm hoping that things start to get better for you.

  6. So sorry things have been slamming you. It's okay to vent. Sometimes it helps just to get it out. I have two other women RVing friends who are also going through troubling times. One has breast cancer and the other has lung cancer. She is only 49. But the rest of us RVing sisters are out here cheering on all those who have troubles in their lives right now. Feel the support? It's there for you too. Hang in there one more time girl. Things will turn for the better.

    1. Oh no, I'm so very sorry for your friends. Wow, I hope they can recover & have good lives. I so hate cancer. My husband is a lung cancer survivor. He celebrated his 2nd year of survival last summer, so I'll keep them in my hopes & prayers.

    1. Thank you so much Linda. I was just overwhelmed & angry with myself yesterday. But with the grief of recent times, then this, I was about to go over the edge. I do hope we can have a gtg soon! But it'll be for a visit & good times. :-)

  8. TexCyn - These days if any RV place tells me something I assume:

    1. They're lying, or simply don't know, so they make it up
    2. They'll do just the bare minimum to get you out the door
    3. They'll charge too much for the subpar work (book time!!)
    4. You'll be going back at minimum twice to get the repair to the repair, repaired only to have to take it back months later....
    5. You will feel defeated

I have honestly come to dislike all RV repair places. It doesn't seem to matter what their reputation is if we go there that will be the time they screw it up. I have learned a lot because of it, for example, 3 trips for a water pump, moral of that story, be there for the repair and make them prove it's fixed.

Hold the shop accountable for their work, maybe even stop at a different shop to have the repair estimated in writing and you can hand that to the shop that did the work. Hopefully they step up and do it right.

Good luck and I hope your foot gets better soon!

    1. You are right Erik. If his work was as great as his ego, then wow, I'd have one hell of a source to go to!! But alas, it's not really like that is it? I've read some of your trials with your local places, you've really had it rough with them! I swear, it makes my blood boil.

  9. I know you are venting and so am I...everyone (almost) lies!! or don't know what they are talking about. I agree with Erik's rv...every single item he listed. Nobody is going to step up and do it right...they didn't know what they were doing the first time! They probably won't even be in business for much longer. My mom has their motorhome that she is trying to give away (literaly) and people are still trying to rip us off,,it doesn't run and nobody has any money to fix it even if we give it to them....I'm thinking it might be time to call it a day on your motorhome...live it as long as you can where you are and try to save some money. Let us know ...one day at a time.

    1. Thanks girl. This guy has been around a long time, but he did admit to me that he just doesn't have a good crew right now...so, why not supervise them to get it done right??!! It's frustrating. Fortunately, the window doesn't leak, the problem was, when they did the rebuild, they didn't seal down the clearance lights, so after my 3rd trip back to them, I suggested it may not be the window, but the clearance lights. Sure enough, that was the problem, BUT in the meantime, they messed the window up with all that caulk. I'll take it back & get it done right. The RV is in good shape, but it's been a learning curve on who to use & not to use. I've learned not to use the less expensive guy out in the country for instance...he cost me more & the generator still needs some work! My instincts told me to run, but the want to get it fixed won out...well, lesson learned. I've learned that these guys out in the country really rip you off in gas expenses as they have to make multiple trips to town!
I hope things work out for your Mom's RV. I swear, life can be so difficult when it should not be...

  11. Awww, sorry you are down but it will get better. You've had a lot to deal with lately and are entitled to a down day.

Stories like yours are why I do most of the work myself. Not sure it actually takes me longer even tho I'm slow because I have to learn and figure out everything as I go.

  12. So sorry for all the trouble you are having, Cyn. Wishing there was something I could do to help. When we come to the end of our rope, only thing to do is tie a knot and hang on. I know you are a "hanger-on=er" and one of the best I know, You are an inspiration to me and many others!
